Stuart McWilliam is the owner and designer for STU ART CONCEPTS.
Design is an ever evolving process that takes you on a journey with an unknown destination. Through designing artwork for prints, greeting cards, logos and designs on merchandise, I have evolved my design skills learnt firstly as an architect and now through STU ART CONCEPTS and the commissions and feedback from my treasured customers.

Creativity has always been a part of my life to various degrees. As a child I liked to draw and make things with paper. While studying architecture at university, I sold mobiles in a handcraft cooperative in northern Sydney. This was very rewarding and I enjoyed both the creating and the selling aspects. When practising architecture, designing, planning, creating, organising, negotiating were part of my everyday life. Eventually, I became managing director of the firm started by my father. Having completed many years as an architect, it was time for a career change, and I became an English as a second language teacher firstly in South Korea, then back in Sydney. Teaching allowed me more time to explore my creativity. Friends and family are special and I like to give them cards that I design and make, each one personal. One I designed for my leaving students was seen by a new employer and she commissioned me to design a few cards. This led to a new creative enthusiasm to where I’ve decided to sell my designs online and share them with people around the world. I retired from “work” in 2014. This has allowed me to refine my design style and create unique original designs which you won’t find anywhere else. My inspirations come from things I see around me. The pictures I’ve collected from walking and travelling around Sydney and Melbourne and the natural and design worlds often become part of a new card idea. Patterns and textures are also an inspiration. Each design develops it’s own personality. Often the initial design concept is very different from the finished artwork as I am taking on a journey of discovery. When I’m satisfied with the design concept it is published online for sale. Designs are available for purchase from my shop.
